Current walking frames and mobility aid solutions were investigated, as well as other products designed for elderly users - to identify effective approaches, principles and visual treatments.
Concept ideation and development, looking at different ways wheeled walking frames can be made more portable and usable for different situations; while still offering equal, or greater benefits than standard walking frames.
Aluminium and polycarbonate framework pieces combine for a lightweight wheeled walker, concealing working components, and easily adjusted to form a walking ‘stick’. This configuration provides support for the user across a variety of locations, situations and surfaces.
Handles are locked at different heights to account for different user sizes and different Easmove configurations.
Large flat rubber surfaces (50mm x 30mm each) on base of wheel covers are locked together to provide a grippy base in the walking 'stick' configuration.
Large flat surfaces on base of wheel covers are locked together to prvide a short, standard-width walking frame.
The concealed retractable cable has several functions: providing support for the legs (in extended walker position - below); pulling in the rear leg; and straightening the rear ‘steering’ wheels (above) - so that front and rear wheels slot together side-by-side.
A leather and netting storage pouch is able to be clipped onto front legs; it's soft, flexible construction allowing it to collapse and fold up when legs are slid sideways together.
